Element: Plan and prepare for task
  • Determine task requirements, including characteristics of surface and required surface coating, from work documentation
  • Plan task by identifying processing and application techniques, time and safety requirements and efficient work methods
  • Identify and follow work health and safety requirements
  • Identify tools, equipment and accessories to meet task requirements and check they are safe and operational
  • Identify and prepare required surface coatings and other materials and check they meet task quality requirements

  • Identify surface or other faults in products to be coated and report or repair faults in accordance with workplace procedures
  • Protect other products and equipment in the workplace from overspray
  • Perform trial applications of surface materials to check condition of spray system, spray patterns, equipment operation, materials viscosity and conformity with specified surface finish
  • Clean or replace unserviceable components and reassemble spray system
  • Identify and rectify spray pattern faults in accordance with workplace procedures.
  • Identify and rectify material faults in accordance with workplace procedures
  • Ensure surfaces are kept free of contamination
  • Apply surface coatings in accordance with workplace procedures
  • Check surface build and coverage against workplace requirements for even spread and thickness
  • Rectify surface faults in accordance with workplace procedures
  • Inspect products and approve for suitability for further processing
  • Check, clean and store equipment and unused materials in accordance with equipment instructions and workplace procedures
  • Tag unserviceable equipment, identify faults and inform appropriate personnel in accordance with workplace procedures
  • Clean work area, including spray booth, safely dispose of waste and identify items for recycling in accordance with workplace procedures and environmental standards
  • Complete required workplace records

Assessment Tasks

Copy and paste from the following data to produce each assessment task. Write these in plain English and spell out how, when and where the task is to be carried out, under what conditions, and what resources are needed. Include guidelines about how well the candidate has to perform a task for it to be judged satisfactory.
